The human mind is a neurotic mind, says Buddhism. So, all tools presented w/in Buddhist practice are to work with, or undo, this neuroticism. Different than the partitioning out of certain labels & maladies as Western medicine does, Buddhism offers a basic understanding of the nature of all human minds. Yes, different minds get shaped towards different styles of heightenings of this basic neuroticism, but the tools still guide us back to that baseline – all human minds function from & w/a level of neuroticism. Once worked with, though, the mind becomes serviceable. Rather than us at the whims of our thoughts with an unexamined mind, an observed mind is a fantastically functional tool. And once worked with to a certain level, we are then able to go beyond this everyday mind that the majority of us function from, and have access to a whole different level of vitality, calm, clarity & wisdom about ourselves, our place in life & life as a whole – so we can thrive! Each & every one of us.
